We Finally Hit The Road !

We have finally left on our big trip ! Very much later than we expected, about 1 week late to be exact but everything has been done that needed to be and all has been completed. The fitting of the solar panels, batteries and wiring all took much longer than expected as did all the work Sandy did on the curtains, they are looking very modern and very professional. So everything completed, we fell in a heap and slept soundly last night and left this morning.
We left home with the intention of having a photo taken on the riverfront with the Hindmarsh Island Bridge in the background. Going around the first corner the wiring to caravan reversing camera was ripped out of its socket as I hadn't left enough slack to cope with the hard turns. The car seemed to be dragging the caravan on the way to Strath and by the time we arrived at the Strath Bakery I knew all was not right and could smell something burning. I fixed the busted cable, adjusted the mirrors and could not find anything else wrong until we went to reverse back and leave, then it felt like we hit something and couldn't reverse any further. The problem was that when the brakes were serviced last week they tightened the hand brake cable so it wasn't slack, but basically they overtightened it and almost locked the brakes, so from Goolwa to Strath we literally dragged the caravan.
With the hand brake cable now adjusted we left again and could feel a drastic difference in the way the car and caravan travelled. Huge difference !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At Murray Bridge we stopped at Bunnings of all places to exchange an empty gas cylinder which turned out to be nearly full so we left again. Things happen in 3's so I hoped that was the 3 things and the cards would turn and they did. The car travelled very well and the caravan tracked beautifully all the way to Lameroo where we checked in at our favourite spot on the Lameroo Lake, on lawn, plugged in the power, switched on the air-cond, had a cold drink and promptly fell asleep.
Tis such a hard life this travelling.
Tomorrow we go onto Nyah Forest on the banks of the Murray River near Swan Hill in Victoria where we will stay for several days.
