What a trip to Yarrawonga

We left Tocumwal in good spirits to travel further down the river and bush camp again. We had been recommended a site that was big, on the water and at this time of year last year was very quiet. We found during our travels that everywhere along the river was just getting rediculously busy and some of the places were filled with nothing but ferrals. We set the gps for our campsite destination and continued on our way. When we turned of the bitumen onto the dirt things didn't look right as it just didn't look like the picture we had in the book, but we drove in, the signage was right and kept following the gps. It wasn't long and we turned a corner and the track narrowed and we both new things weren't right. We stopped and walked for a while and found a deadend track with no room to turn around so we knew that the location was wrong. We turned around in the bush of the track without a problem and started on our way back out but took a different route. The track got narrower, the scrub and trees bigger and overhanging the track more and absolutely no hope of turning around. We had no choice but continue until we got out or found an area to turn around and go back. Convinced we were on our way out, we kept going slowly and soon came to another dead end full of campers who basically said, we are expecting 3 more lots to arrive so theres no room for you so bugger off. We were able to turn around and head out again and not trusting any other tracks we started out the way we came in and all went well until we turned at a sharp bend and I didn't go wide enough so both wheels on the passenger side of the van slipped of the track into a huge hole and there I stopped. While I investigated and Sandy stayed in the car thank heavens I could see we were likely to be in deep shit. I got back in and we very slowly started moving forward and were surprised that we managed to just drive out of the hole and with no damage to the caravan. The sky was now getting black, it was going to rain and soon and we still had a long way to go to get out. As we finally got back to the bitumen very relieved it rained.
We can't understand how the gps got it wrong but get it wrong it did and we could have been stuck for days or having to reverse out about 6klms if we hadn't have been able to turn around.
Eventually after seeing some lousy places to stay we headed south and into the state forest to a camp ground stayed there the night. We had the place to ourselves which was rather pleasant and it rained all night. The road in was pretty good so there was no problem leaving this morning and driving back to the bitumen. The problem was finding somewhere to stay again for tonight.
We found again that nearly everywhere was packed out and that some places people had setup caravans and tents up to 2 weeks ago. In the end we thought stuff this and drove into Yarrawonga and pulled into a caravan park. Here while we got a site we also found that there were the no vacancies for the days ahead and easter. Everywhere is fully booked with not even a unpowered tent site being available. We knew it would be busy over easter but this madness we never expected, so where we stay over easter is not a matter of where we would like its where we can get in as you can right off every site between here and Albury/Wangaratta. So we have emailed several parks for a vacancy so we are of the road till after easter.
Its gets busy along the river in SA but nothing like this, this is absolute madness along the river, people piled each top of each other they are so close and everywhere so busy, ofcourse school holidays are on as well which makes it even worse.
