After moving to Nyah we found the freezer was not keeping everything frozen and appeared to be defrosting. The fridge was not coping either even though the tempature was only around 32 degrees each day. We got up on thursday to find the freezer just wasn't working and everything had thawed out, the fridge was now up to 18 degrees and we were forced to cook what we could, give some meat away and had to ditch three quarters of what we had. Two months supply of frozen food down the drain.
So most of the day was spent cooking meat an d disposing of what was suspect or couldn't be salvaged. By late afternoon we were giving away whole chickens that were partially thawed and that we could keep.
By late afternoon everything we kept was cooked, done into meals and back in the freezer of the fridge which appeared to be still working as against the 90litre 240volt freezer not working. We put the generator on hoping the fridge might work better on 240 volt. Then we found that the freezer does work, it just isn't compatable with running of our inverter. So we thought we had solved the problems of the fridge and freezer.
Friday morning showed the temp in the fridge around 18 degrees and the freezer around 8 degrees, so what had been put in the freezer never even got frozen. We packed up and moved into Swan Hill hoping to arrange for someone local to repair the fridge only to find out when we arrived that we would have to a rude "tinker" to have a look or we go to Echuca or Bendigo. We stayed the weekend in the caravan park and did some exploring over the fridge and found a wire no longer connected. The fridge was then working well on 240 volt and so was the freezer above it. We changed to running the fridge/freezer on gas and it seemed to run okay although as as well as 240 volt. Today (sunday) we left to come to Echuca and found that the fridge isnt working properly on 12 volt while we travel. So in the morning we visit 2 caravan repair places and see what can be done.
We are now camped about 8klms east of Echuca and obviously with river frontage again until tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteGlad you sorted the fridge/ freezer setup. Lucky you have the knowledge to do it. Sounds like you have a good spot to camp. It is a nice area around there. We hope the fridge problem is the last of it. Like the look of the rig and vehicle. Lovely piece of gear. Glad to see the feet were clean :-) Keep at it and we look forward to ongoing "keep ups"
