Batemans Bay Via Depot Beach National Park

Depot Beach National Park is right on the beachfront with a great campground. Set at the bottom of the mountains and overlooking the sandy bay we checked in, this being our first actual NSW National park experience.
They have modern cabins, powered caravan & tent sites and unpowered sites, camp kitchen areas, fireplaces, toilet & shower blocks etc, very much the same as caravan parks. The fees system over here in many places is per person and not per site. As it was the off season we paid $14/person per day plus $7 per day per car which brings it up to around the same as caravans parks. Then we found out that the showers were 20cents in the slot.
We arrived at our site, set up and went touring, us being the only caravan there and one tent site was being used along with a couple of cabins. When we came back we had neighbours, nice people from Melbourne heading further north and later that night a couple from Canberra.
The couple from canberra were the weirdest caravanners I have ever seen. I gave up counting how many times he reversed onto the site, he unhooked his van and it rolled away, so he re-hooked it on and moved it 6 inches. One side was all chocked up of the ground while the other side sat 3 inches lower. Dont think he had ever heard of a level. It spat with rain and for almost 2 hours he buggered around with getting the van off, unhooking, putting the power on and putting the roof up and to top it all off he then put a lock on the caravan hitch and went inside. It was very hard not to laugh, it was just so rediculous. We got the impression he was a school teacher. he finally moved the car in front of the caravan and she told him to move it. That was after he tried several times to reverse it in, infront of the caravan. So he moved it next to the caravan on the adjoining site which again was drive forward, drive reverse then repeat it again and again and again. What a total dickhead !
We slept that night hearing the waves crashing on the beach and sounding like it they were huge waves. We soon found out they were not and only about 12 inches high but the sound echoes up the valley and mountain making it sound bad. The wind and rain set in during the night and at 3am I had to go and tie the rollout awning down. Next morning we found out there was a rainfall of 75mm overnight. Anywonder it poured heavily and didn't stop. We got a very disturbed nights sleep.
From our campsite we travelled into Batemans Bay which was rather surprising. Having heard all about this holiday destination it was a little disappointing. Beautiful bay, very hilly town, great ocean views, huge caravan parks full of permanent vans.
We did some touring along the coast as there are numerous little settlements along the coast with beach or cove frontage.
Nice area but can't personally see the attraction apart from the waterways.
The national park where we stayed was great, we were visited by really colourful birds that were so cheeky. They flew in under the awning, sat on chairs and the table and chatted and walked around on the annexe floor. Pinched the cake crumbs of my plate also. Kangaroos were everywhere, they were all small in size and humans obviously didn't bother them, several let me crouch down next to them and pat their heads and stroke their necks and chest. Several others even came over for a nosy and got a pat.
The park was nice the facilities good with the exception of the shower which was a disaster. I could pee faster than the water flowed and the hot water only lasted for 30-45 seconds. Needless to say my humour was not real smiley when I came back.
From here we were to head for Moruya and Narooma.
