Heading for Narooma and onto Bega

We only had to travel about 100klms and had decided on an overnight roadside stop just before Narooma. It was pretty darn good, set back a couple hundred yeards of the highway in the scrub with levelled sites, fireplaces, toilets, picnic tables. Was a nice stop over, reasonably quiet and well hidden away from the road with everything you needed including mains water.
After a quiet night we filled the water tanks and as we left (mid morning) others came in to stop for morning tea so the place soon filled up.
We had a brief look at narooma and kept driving as it wasnt anything wonderful.
Our next major stop was to be Bega and that we were looking forward to. We drove through Bega and kept going to our campsite at Yellow Pinch Dam on the southern side of Bega. From here we could do site seeing using it as a base. The climb up the mountain to the campsite was pretty steep and when we arrived only a motorhome was there. There were fireplaces, camp kitchen area with tables and seats, toilet block and water. In the next few hours the place filled up and it was a full house by about 7pm. Views of the dam were not good but some of the sites were bitumenised along with the road recently and it really wasn't a bad spot to use as a base.
Another couple werent going on and were going to spend the day doing washing and few chores so we we leave able to leave the van and go of site seeing.
We went into Bega and headed straight for the Bega Cheese Factory, I mean where else would any tourist go ?
We toured their displays, stocked up on cheeses that were 30-50% of the supermarket price and tried numerous cheeses. Many of the types they sell we never see in a supermarket. Overall we were a bit disappointed with Bega Cheese Factory and felt they lacked in marketing their products to a captive audience.
Bega as a town is a real surprise, a long busy main street, plenty of shopping facilities and homes set up and down the mountainside and valley. Not a real touristy place besides the cheese factory but a nice place to visit.
On the sea front we went to see the town pool. After going down steps down the side of the cliff to the beach which was non existent as it was all rocks and cliff there was the pools to swim in, in real NSW style with the ocean crashing into them and then they overflow back into the sea. I will put some pics on as you have to see it to believe it. The hike down the steps wears you out, to say nothing of what it was like going up them. Bloody long way, they must be desperate for a swim in Bega is all I can say !
We left our camp this morning with the wind blowing and it pouring with rain as we headed for Merrimbula & Eden.
